Dear residents and local parents, 

Humberside Police and the Local Authority continue to receive complaints regarding motorists breaching traffic restrictions in place on PRINCESS ROAD, MARKET WEIGHTON at school drop off and pick up times. 

Princess Road forms part of a Local Authority initiative – School Streets - designed to tackle congestion outside schools and improve the environment, making it safer and easier for children and families to walk, cycle or scoot to and from school.  For more information follow the below link –

Breaching the restrictions of the scheme is a Road Traffic Offence that can be enforced by the Police. 

Unfortunately, despite the restrictions being clearly signposted, The Police, Local Authority and the school are aware that there continue to be daily issues with vehicles breaching the conditions at school drop-off and collection times. 

In the coming days and weeks, the Local Neighbourhood Policing Team and East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be increasing their presence in the area at specific times. The aim will be to educate motorists found breaching the restrictions, enforcement action WILL be considered in every case. 

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council will also be looking at tackling the issue of vehicles parking in clearly marked, restricted areas outside of the schools at specific times. 

The Police ask everyone to please ensure that they are familiar with the restrictions and adhere to them at all times. Please do not move, stop or park your vehicle within the restricted area during the times when the restrictions apply.

Our top priority is the safety of the community, this scheme has been implemented to ensure that children and parents in the area remain safe. 

The vast majority of families want to ensure that children arrive at and leave school safely. Your cooperation is essential in helping to achieve this and in ensuring that the area outside school remains a safe environment for everyone.
